Why Invest in the Area’s Most Affordable PreK – 8th Grade Catholic School Education?
Academic Excellence
“An Investment in Education Pays the Best Interest” – Benjamin Franklin
Our school curriculum focuses on the development of Catholic values and attitudes, as well as the attainment of knowledge and skills necessary for the student’s spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, and physical development. Our philosophy of education recognizes each student as an individual child of God and our teachers use differentiated instruction to ensure each student is able to reach their maximum potential.
Our curriculum encompasses the following subjects: Religion, Reading/Literature, Language Arts (English, Grammar, Spelling, Handwriting), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Fine Arts (Art and Music), Health, Physical Education, Computer Technology, and Library. We offer Advanced Math class to students in 4th through 8th grades who excel in Mathematics.
We are accredited by the Virginia Catholic Education Association and follow the curriculum guidelines established by the Diocese of Arlington. Each subject area has a minimum and maximum number of minutes it should be taught on a weekly basis. These minutes vary according to grade level and copies of the weekly schedule for each faculty member are sent to the Diocesan Office annually. The Guidelines are re-evaluated on a schedule established in the Diocesan Office. For a complete list of the curriculum guidelines set by the Diocese of Arlington, please visit https://www.arlingtondiocese.org/catholic-schools/curriculum-guidelines/.
To ensure no child is left behind, we offer a Resource Program that provides academic support to students who require accommodations and or a modified curriculum. The program is available to provide guidance and assistance to teachers, students, and parents so that the individual learning needs of all students can be addressed. For any questions, please contact our Resource Teacher Mrs. Kimberly Watson at kimberly.watson@stmikes22003.
