Dear Parents,

Wow! It is hard to believe we are already halfway through the 3rd week of school.  We are settling into a routine in 4th Grade!  Please closely read the following items:

Reading Logs: The students all turned in their reading logs on Monday morning.  However, I was a bit concerned to see that many of them were not completed.  This week, please verify that your child has recorded the date, title of book, the minutes read, and pages read.  Please sign the reading logs before Monday morning.  As their reading homework, the students are required to read 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week.  This daily reading is vital to their growth as a reader, especially in building their vocabulary.  The research also shows that reading daily helps boost students’ standardized test scores.  Here is a link explaining some of the research: https://www.wcpo.com/brand-spotlight/how-reading-20-minutes-a-day-impacts-your-child-amazon-kindle

Procedures: Each day, as they walk into the classroom, all the students know what four things they always need: planner, green folder, pencil pouch, and silent reading book.  We are still adjusting to the new system of lockers, but I am hoping that our transitions continue to go more quickly and more smoothly.

Scantron: 4th Grade started their Scantron testing this week.  We will continue it through the next two weeks.  Testing takes place first thing in the morning, so please make sure that your child has had a good breakfast before they get to school!

Kindness Initiative: Students have started earning “Kindness Tickets.”  It is a joy to see them jump to help a classmate or offer applause to a student who has done a good job.  I am so excited to see this kindness grow in the students throughout the year!

Dear Parents,

Wow! It is hard to believe we are already halfway through the 3rd week of school.  We are settling into a routine in 5th Grade.  I am so pleased with the positive attitudes, kind words, adherence to procedures, and attentiveness to work that 5th Grade has demonstrated! They also received glowing praise from Mrs. Wenger for an outstanding job in library.
